It isn’t only you who is affected. Even if it appears to be operating, your air conditioner isn’t always working. Condensers or filters that are dirty, ducting that is broken, or refrigerant leaks can all hinder your air conditioner from cooling you adequately. Trust your instincts if you don’t feel like your air conditioner is cooling you down.

Some issues with air conditioners are more common than others. If your air conditioner isn’t keeping you cool, look into the following questions. Most problems can be solved with some routine maintenance or a simple patch. Start asking yourself these questions the next time you feel like you’re melting in your own home:

Is your air conditioner’s filter Dirty?

This is probably the most prevalent issue that prevents your air conditioner from working properly. Fortunately, it’s also one of the simplest to correct! HVAC filters remove impurities from the air that flows throughout your home by “catching” them as they try to pass through. Air filters have two distinct yet intertwined purposes. For starters, they keep the air you breathe in your home clean. Second, they help to keep the air within your air conditioner clean.

When impurities that are floating through your system are caught by air filters, they stay on the air filter. If impurities continue to accumulate on the filter, they will begin to obstruct normal air flow. The less air that passes through the filter, the dirtier it becomes. Instead, all of the cold air you should be breathing is stuck in your vents! A clogged filter can reduce the efficiency of your complete air conditioner by 5 to 10% on its own. Every three months, check your HVAC filter. Replace it if it appears to be unclean or yellowed.

Is the condenser unit of your air conditioner dirty?

The heated air inside your home is sucked into the condenser, which cools your home. The condenser compresses the heated air and returns it to a liquid state. This process of “condensing” the air compels it to release its latent heat into the environment. The fans on the condenser push the hot air out of the unit and away from your house.

Because your air conditioner’s unit is outside your home, it will naturally become unclean over time. When too much dirt accumulates on the condenser, it prevents air from flowing down onto the coils. The condenser will have a harder time removing heat from your home if there isn’t enough air flow. Your entire air conditioning system will run longer and less efficiently. Cleaning the condenser unit could quickly remedy the cooling issue with your air conditioner. That is something we can assist you with.

Is it possible that your HVAC ducts are leaking?

The air that your air conditioner creates is carried into your home through your HVAC duct system. After cooling the air that passes through it, the condenser unit returns it to your home via the ducts. Air is delivered to each room in your house via a network of interconnected ducts. These ducts must be airtight so that no air escapes before reaching each of your home’s vents.

Air ducts, unfortunately, aren’t usually airtight. If your ducts are broken or worn, the air your AC unit transfers via them may begin to “leak.” On its journey to you, some of the cold air that should be cooling your home gets lost. Examine your duct system for signs of wear and tear. Duct tape (as the name implies) can be used to address minor issues. Turn to the professionals for everything else.

Is the refrigerant in your air conditioner leaking?

The refrigerant in your air conditioner is stored as a liquid inside an evaporator coil. The refrigerant absorbs the heat of the heated air passing over the copper coil and changes into a gas. This gas is sent outside to the condenser coils by the device. The coils push the gas to expel its heat outside and return to a liquid state. When the refrigerant is liquid again, it is returned to the evaporator coil, and the cycle repeats.

During this process, you’ll observe that your air conditioner doesn’t actually lose any refrigerant. All of the refrigerant in your air conditioner is naturally recycled and reused. Unfortunately, if it starts to lose refrigerant, it won’t be able to accomplish its function properly. From the evaporator to the condenser, and everywhere in between, refrigerant can leak from your HVAC system. Give us a call immediately away if you suspect your HVAC system is leaking refrigerant.

Hopefully, after answering these questions, you’ll have a better understanding of the issue and how to resolve it. Give us a call, tell us what’s wrong, and we’ll get it fixed right away. The bad news is that there will be times when one of these four issues isn’t your issue. Maybe you’re still unsure what your issue is.

The good news is that this isn’t a problem either. You can call us at any time, even if you don’t know what’s wrong with your air conditioner. We’ll be able to figure out what’s wrong and correct it almost as quickly as we can figure out what’s wrong. Give Armored and Strong a call the next time your air conditioner refuses to comply. We’ll see to it that you have a “cool” summer in Dubai.
